When considering cosmetic procedures, most people want the best results with as little downtime as possible. High-definition liposuction uses ultrasound-assisted technology (VASER® liposuction), allowing a more targeted fat removal approach. This lessens postoperative bruising and swelling and can lower overall recovery time. This blog discusses the downtime needed for liposuction, the total recovery time, and when patients can expect to see their results.

Preparing for Recovery After High-Definition Liposuction

Before undergoing any cosmetic surgery, it is important to familiarize yourself with the procedure and the recovery process so you can make an informed decision. While a lengthy recovery period may seem unappealing for many people, the results tend to make any recovery period worthwhile for many patients.

High-definition liposuction is an advanced technique that removes stubborn fat, tightens the skin, and creates the appearance of muscle definition. This procedure attracts many people who are at or near their goal weights but have stubborn fat deposits in certain areas. You may be a good candidate for high-definition liposuction if you want to remove stubborn fat and sculpt slimmer, more toned contours.

When planning for recovery, taking some time off work and other daily responsibilities or activities is essential so your body has time to properly heal. To make things easier, you can pick up prescribed pain medications and compression garments for recovery before your procedure so that you’ll already have these items ready when you come home from surgery. It’s also a good idea to make arrangements ahead of time for someone to drive you to and from your surgical appointment and to stay with you the first night you come home to make sure you’re healing alright.

When Can I Go Back to Work After High-Definition Liposuction?

Your high-definition liposuction recovery timeline will vary depending on how quickly your body heals and the extent of your procedure. In terms of returning to work, if your job requires physical labor, you will need to wait longer than those with desk jobs that don’t require strenuous physical activities. Many patients’ desk jobs allow them to resume work one week after their procedure. However, everyone’s body heals differently, and it’s perfectly normal for patients to need one to two weeks to recover before returning to work. For those with more physically strenuous jobs, be sure to get cleared to work by your surgeon before returning.

How Long Is High-Definition Liposuction Recovery?

Even though many patients can return to work after one to two weeks, they may still need to refrain from strenuous activities for longer. After surgery, the treatment areas will be swollen, obscuring the full extent of your results. Swelling can cause some pain and discomfort, and you may be prescribed pain medications to help make your recovery more comfortable. Many patients may need to wait around six weeks before doing intense exercise and performing strenuous activities. Your surgeon will keep you informed on when you can return to various levels of physical activity to best support your recovery.
